Zoey's ROCKIN AWESOME CHATBOX!

stelera:

Inspired by this picture by Zilleniose because I have become enthralled by the idea of John and EnderKat having a relationship built completely on blind trust. Blind because John must keep his eyes closed to keep EnderKat from becoming enraged with aggression and killing him.

That’s all for tonight, but there will be more to come in this series!

Also Freckle!Kat for my boo because she likes Freckle!Kat.

Artists, check it.

I saw a post just now on my dash that was an excerpt from this book, Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud.

If you’re any sort of visual artist, no matter your age, level of talent, or passion - READ THIS BOOK. The title is somewhat decieving; yes much of it is certainly about comics, but most of the content talks about all forms of art in general, and breaks down every point imaginable into simple, easy to read panels organized in such a way that’s not only immensely educational, but fun to read, too! The book itself is set up like a comic book, with illustrations that include an avatar of the author.

I actually had to read this book for an animation class, if I recall correctly. And man, I have to tell you, this is literally the only book I was vehement about not selling back to the school. It’s pure gold, and Scott is a genius.

Here it is on Amazon, and it’s super cheap! This book had to be the best read in my life when concerning my passion for art. I learned so much, and every ounce of material is so immensely useful for anyone in any artistic profession. The author doesn’t drawl on and on about semi-interesting or half-useful information; it’s quick, to the point, and easy to understand.

Did I mention it’s amazing?

Good. Now go buy it.

You get home from a long day at work and turn on the TV. It’s been a long week, so you think to yourself- maybe i’ll take the family to a movie on Saturday. Maybe we’ll even go on a vacation soon! We could visit museums and go to plays and see all sorts of fun attractions. When you turned the TV on, nothing happened. There are no actors to entertain you. When you went to the movie theater, nothing was showing. There were no advertisements to tell you that anything was showing, so you went to the theater to find out. Nothing playing. There is no one to film and create movies for you. Well at least your vacation will be fun, right? Not like there will be any plays to see and there won’t be anything in the art museums. Well at least you have the shack you are living in that you made out of cardboard and sheets. Not like you could find an architect to build you a house with all the money you’re making as an engineer.

I love how people always forget (or never know) that graphic design is a form of communication.
Where would we be without global or national symbols? Countries with 6 dominant languages would have to have 6 written plaques on each bathroom door to tell you which one to use. Traffic signs would be different in every state, requiring you to have to constantly try and figure out what signs are what. Nutrition and medicine labels would have no form, making it either frustratingly tedious or impossible to translate.
Design isn’t just “making things look pretty”. No. Designers have one of the, if not the most universally powerful voices in society. Designers decide what information is important, what is detrimental, what needs to be said first, second, and last. Without designers, all of your information would be organized in a giant block of unorganized text with no hierarchy. You could spend an hour reading through 30 pages of information just to figure out you need to take two of these pills before bedtime with a full glass of water.
Design is a powerful driving force in marketing. Design is literacy. Design is organization. In a slightly more sinister light, design is the art of pulling the puppet strings of our minds. Design dictates how we absorb information, when we absorb it, how to utilize it, and can steer our consciousness.
Without design, our world could look like this.
(Not that I don’t think Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff isn’t a masterpiece in itself and I love it more than socially acceptable, but you get the point.)

Commissions!

Alright, I’m back in business! But due to my still iffy health situation, I will only be taking smaller commissions. Here’s a list of what I’m willing to draw:

* Ponies
* Pokemon
* Other small creatures
* “Chibis” (Yes, I can do Homestuck characters!)

I’m not up for detailed backgrounds or specific, complicated scenes. Pokemon using certain moves, simple scenes, or having ponies in certain positions are okay though! But please don’t give me a link to a fanfic that I have to read and say “draw out this scene”. OCs are welcomes, as well as canon characters! As always, if you’re at all curious, feel free to ask me if your commission is doable. Send all commission requests via notes! Prices are as follows:

Archer's Sketchdump: Things Not To Say To An Artist:

gayjamesbond:

2. Brb giving up art forever/burning everything I’ve ever drawn/killing myself.

This is something that many of my fellow artists are guilty of. No matter what you think, this is not an acceptable form of flattery. On the occasion that this happens to me I actually feel really…

Reblogging because man, I can’t agree with this more. I hate hearing this from people. You draw because it’s fun, not because you want to be better than everyone else - even though that is something you can strive for. But saying (or even doing so) you want to give up drawing forever just because someone is better than you (not to sound elitist, because there are PLENTY of people out there better than me, obviously) is horrible. You never start out doing something and you’re instantly a master. You got to work for it - and there’s always going to be someone who’s farther ahead on the same road.

That, and like the article says, even if it’s meant to be a compliment, it never makes an artist feel good. It makes us feel horrible! There’s nothing worse than taking away someone’s happiness, even for a minute. I literally feel depressed for an hour or two when someone tells me that, even in a lighthearted tone; even if it was meant to be a compliment. If anything, I think one of the greatest joys is to inspire. It’s hard not to get jealous of people that draw better than you, and that’s normal - but don’t make that quit something you love!

Take SkepticArcher herself. I love looking at her art because it gives me something to work towards, it gives me a boost of inspiration and makes me feel happy! It makes me want to try harder, not less. I always hope that my art makes people happy too (even though I also draw to make myself happy)!
