I knew it for years but I just really realized today how much of a habit I have biting my lips. Coincidentally, I also learned today that is can cause more problems than you might expect. So I need to quit.
Problem is, IT’S REALLY HARD because it’s been a habit ever since middle school. Does anyone else have this problem? I’ve been putting on Aquaphor all day, but I’m still getting little bits of skin starting to peel off and
and I can feel it
and I WANT TO PEEL IT OFF
I think I’m going nuts
I know you’re supposed to leave your lips alone for at least a week to try and quit the habit of lip biting/scratching/peeling. But what am I supposed to do in the meantime having skin hanging off my lips? Does anyone know if an olive oil/sugar rub will irritate it the same way as peeling would?
Man this is getting really difficult not to think about every waking minute, I had no idea I was this addicted to biting my lips. It sucks because it’s kinda fun? In the same way you know how you peel a piece of tape off a smooth surface? I’m probably off my rocker and no one know what I’m talking about.

I do this cause I have anxiety issues and I chew on the skin around my nails. I get medicated mint lip balm and that will stop me for a few hours. I’m looking into getting one of those e-cigs with no nicotine. so it would just be flavored water vapor

whoops ahaha this is me?
I don’t really know what to do to help - usually I just use tons of chapstick, but that doesn’t sound like it’s working for you. You could try doing something else to distract you, like maybe chewing gum? Just an idea.

Have you tried a nasty-tasting chapstick?

Well, since my habit is caused by a need to have something in my mouth and chew on it, usually carrying around a pack of gum and popping some in my mouth whenever i need to chew on something works. I dont know if that will help you, but i hope so!

I do it all the time. The only thing I’ve found that works within a day to help ease the pain of peeling off all the loose skin is the Mentha lip balm you can get at Bed, Bath & Beyond. It’s expensive, but soooo worth it

The only thing I can tell you is don’t use lip blam. it will only make it worse.

I do this too. I end up peeling off a layer of skin from my bottom lip every other day. Doubt I’ll ever be able to stop cuz they just dry out constantly.

I get what you’re talking about; I’m the same way when I tan and my skin starts to peel. I’d look into skin moisturizers (that don’t sting) and possibly try to find something that might numb your lips to keep you from wanting to bite on it.

Oh gosh you’re not alone. I practically eat my bottom lip everyday.
I wanna know if anyone has ideas too.

I usually try to prevent my lips from getting too dry and peeling by using chap-stick or lip balm, but I’ve never really had that problem. I’m not sure what to do if you’re just chewing on your lips, even if there’s no peeling skin. Sorry. =C

the sugar thing is supposed to exfoliate so i dont think it’d be a problem! But what problems does biting cause? Because I do that too D:
