So, I have this headcanon thing that’s been floating in my brain for a while! I’m not sure if it’s been proven otherwise in canon, but I like it nonetheless.
I believe trolls have other sleeping arrangements other than recuperacoons - they also have something that resembles human beds. Why? Because there is actually a specific time that they don’t require the sedating effects of sopor slime.
Red romance, like love in humans, initiates an influx of natural “feel good” chemicals (like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins in humans). It is in fact a positive evolutionary trait to feel this way with people we have strong emotional bonds with. So while a troll is with a matesprit or moirail, they don’t actually require sopor slime to sleep peacefully. This is one reason why trolls, while violent in nature, seek such quadrants.
Beds (or whatever trolls would call it) are actually more of an “adult” (as in mature, not sexual) sort of thing, since nearly all adults have those established red romances. But adolescence can still have them! It just wouldn’t be as common. (And adults still have their own recuperacoons)
It’s also more common for matesprits to sleep together, since the implications can lean towards more sexual tendencies. However, sleeping with a moirail isn’t terribly uncommon nor is it frowned upon - there’s just never any sex.
